The clean-up of the city of Bamako has become more than just a concern for the highest authorities of the country. This is the reason why a very important role of the government is highly desirable.
Today, the country invests a lot of money in the well-being of the populations. The majority of these funds go towards education and disease prevention. However, virtually nothing goes into sanitation. If we compare the figures, the national budget for sanitation is of the order of 0.02% ! What real and practical solution can be attained with such a budget? The State, the Municipalities, and development partners should work together to promote a real sanitation strategy. A clean city is a tourist magnet therefore a genuine economic interest.
